Florence in Italy is well known for its art and culture. It’s filled with important epic sculptures, paintings, magnificent architecture and the creamiest, most delectable gelato. The aromatic pizza, fine Chianti wine and hearty Tuscan cuisine are the things that most of the tourists savor. There are some important places that every tourist should visit while on Florence Tour.
The Art of Florence
Apart from many treasures, Michelangelo’s David is probably the most recognizable statue in the world. The real McCoy can be seen on display at the Galleria dell’ Academia, Tuesdays through Sundays. Moreover, there are a lot of interesting places in the city that also deserve a visit. One more perennial favorite is an apron emblazoned with David’s image. Another attraction can be found in the Piazza Dell Signoria. Other fabulous works, such as Botticelli’s "Birth of Venus" can be seen at the Uffizi Gallery, which houses some of the world’s greatest paintings. Hire a car to explore all the architectural sites of Florence in order not to miss any of the monuments during your trip.
The Cathedral of Florence
Also outstanding is the 360-degree view of the city that can be seen from the top of the Campanile (Giotto’s Bell Tower) next to the Duomo but you’ll have to work for it by climbing 414 steps to the top. After reaching to the top the fabulous scenery is worth of it, plus, as an added bonus, you’ll tighten your thighs.
The cathedral has several tiers of marble illustrating various themes, such as mankind’s creation, the planets, and the seven sacraments. Those who manage to reach the top will also be treated to wonderful views of the Duomo, which was built between the 13th and 15th century. The cathedral features both Roman and Gothic architectural styles, frescoes, floor mosaics, and some of the finest stained glass that you have never seen before such as the Rose Window by Duccio di Buoninsegna which was created in 1288.
The Gardens of Florence
The city and its sights are really beautiful viewed from within, even better are the all-encompassing panoramic views that can be seen from the top of the hills of the Boboli Gardens (Giardino di Boboli). In 1539, the powerful Medici family bought the Pitti Palace, which was surrounded by a large park that had never been landscaped. The family had hired Niccolo Pericoli to create this stunning Renaissance garden, which he worked on until his death in 1550. This beautiful garden encompasses lake, tree-lined walkways, hundreds of statues, and a small museum which was opened to the public in 1766 by the Grand Duke of Tuscany, Peter Leopold I of Hapsburg-Lorraine.
Florence car rental services can help you reach these exotic gardens.
